How We Fly For Less

In this article, we give our favorite tips & tricks for flying for less. We are extremely budget savvy when it comes to booking our flights and any way we can save in order to travel more is a win for us.

  1. Going: This hack has honestly saved us hundreds on flights over the past few years. By becoming a Going member, you can choose your closest airports and you will receive emails when flights for various destinations roll in. Going has a tiered membership included its free limited membership, premium membership, and elite membership. We personally have the premium membership which has given us amazing deals for unreal destinations. Keep in mind that the flight deals that are sent your way usually only last for 1-4 days, so you have to be ready to book right away. We used this service when we bought our tickets to the Azores in the $500s per person from our small local airport as opposed to the multiple thousands of dollars that these tickets usually cost per person.

  2. Hopper: If you have specific destinations and dates in mind for a vacation, the Hopper App (free) will track flight prices for you and advise you on when the best time to buy the tickets are. Hopper also gives you the ability to potentially buy multiple one way tickets instead of round trip tickets if it turns out to be cheaper. Through Hopper, we were able to buy flight tickets less than $500 per person from Norfolk (smaller community airport) to Calgary in Canada which is an amazing deal. 3. Google Flights: Whenever we are considering flying, Google Flights is an amazing way to compare current flights from one destination to another with other airlines. You can see flight times, layover duration, and if an overnight stay is necessary. Additionally, Google Flights is a great way to see how changing the dates on your trip by a few days can sometimes make a huge difference in terms of flight prices. This allows you to pick the cheapest, fastest, or most convenient flight options depending on your priorities.

  4. Credit Card Rewards: We use travel credit cards to minimize our spending when it comes to flights, hotels, etc. In fact, we were able to buy 2 round trip flight tickets to the Azores for about $200 total by using Chase Ultimate Rewards Points. If you are responsible with credit cards, using the bonus points to book flights is a great way to save money. We wrote an article specifically about travel credit cards if you are interested in learning more.

Here are just a few of our tried-and-true methods for saving money when booking flights. Let us know if you have any other tips & tricks for flight deals.
